Okay, that headline was a cheap ploy for attention, but there may be some truth in it according to my hilarious co-star, author and comedienne, Mollie Gross. We decided to shoot this YouTube video completely spontaneously, without preparation, planning, personal hygiene, and at least in Mollie’s case, pants.
I was initially hesitant to agree to Mollie’s idea for us to record our unshowered, unprepared chat session on Zoom. That day, I had gone on a long, sweaty power walk to burn off the dozen or so jalapeño poppers I had consumed the night before, and then I sat down at my kitchen island and called Mollie, who wrote the hilarious memoir Confessions of a Military Wife eleven years before the publication of my own humorous memoir, The Meat and Potatoes of Life: My True Lit Com. My intention was for Mollie and I to hammer out some plans for a future Zoom call video recording. As military spouse authors and humor writers, Mollie and I wanted to create a video in which we discussed laughter as a coping strategy in our lives. I had envisioned us being all dolled up in nice outfits and make up, under flattering lighting, offering well-rehearsed talking points.
But instead, Mollie said about five minutes into the phone call, “Let’s just do this now,” and next thing I know, we’re both on screen recording ourselves, making faces, comparing bras, sharing plastic surgery fantasies, and laughing. Although I looked like DEATH, the spontaneity of the recording made it SO much funnier and more authentic. And furthermore, it proved the underlying point Mollie and I were really trying to make: Don’t worry about unimportant things — laugh at them!
Take a peek at this video and decide for yourself… IS Mollie wearing pants or not??? Then send me your questions for our next video chat session!

Hilarious video. You ladies did it the right way. I don’t know if you had pants on but it’s clear you both “wear the pants” in your marriages and life. 🙂

Thanks for watching the video, Sara … I am totally over the pandemic and the resulting explosion in Zoom video calls, but the option of not wearing pants while socializing is an unexpected benefit, I must admit.
